The Lost Superfoods Book Review

The buzz surrounding The Lost SuperFoods has reached my ears quite frequently, prompting me to take the plunge and acquire it, all in the pursuit of discovering whether this might be the long-sought food preservation guide I've been yearning for.

In our digitally reliant society, the looming possibility of a substantial blackout makes this kind of wisdom absolutely indispensable.

After selecting the purchase option and finalizing the payment, I received a notification stating that the physical copy of the book could take up to a week for delivery. My preference lies with tangible books that fit snugly within the grasp of two hands, as opposed to digital counterparts confined to screens. Hence, despite the instant access to the content on my computer, I opted to await the arrival of the paperback edition via mail.

Impressively, it only took four days for the package to land at my doorstep, a pleasantly swift surprise.

Immediately, I noted the well-protected packaging, enveloped in bubble wrap, and the book's weight that felt more substantial than my past literary acquisitions.

Subsequently, the book's aesthetic caught my attention - a rugged allure reminiscent of the days when cowboys traversed the wild west. This visual was further accentuated by the presence of cowboys gracing the cover. A fresh scent hung in the air, hinting at recent printing.

The pages proved resilient, appearing as though they could withstand rough handling and endure travel within a bug-out-bag. This quality holds significance, given my prior encounters with "survival books" that appeared fit for nothing beyond being gingerly moved from nightstand to coffee table.

Comprising over 270 pages in letter format, The Lost SuperFoods boasts readability even for those with less-than-perfect eyesight. Regardless of appearances and durability, my primary curiosity centered on the book's content, for that was the essence of my acquisition.

What enticed me most about this book, motivating my purchase, is its exclusive focus on foods that withstand extensive periods without refrigeration.

Upon cracking open The Lost Superfoods, the table of contents greeted me at the outset. I was delighted to find the Doomsday Ration recipe, featured in the book's video, right there. This superfood, a Cold War creation by our military, purportedly retains viability for a lifetime sans refrigeration. I'm intent on crafting some to bolster my survival cache.

My attention was quickly captured by several other foods listed, such as the canned meat that sustained individuals during WW2, the Native-American Pemmican, Biltong, and Pocket Soup. The fact that most recipes center on protein-rich content, replete with essential fats and an array of vital vitamins and minerals, offered an undeniable bonus. This, coupled with their prolonged shelf life, renders them "super."

In the present day, I ardently steer clear of carbohydrates due to their adverse impact on my digestion. Essential fats and proteins, not carbs, form the cornerstone of my diet.

Prior survival cookbooks I encountered were replete with carb-laden recipes, but this one strays from that norm.

While perusing, the book's meticulous organization was evident, with each long-lasting superfood meriting its own dedicated chapter. The reader is acquainted with the food's origins, the methods our grandparents employed to stockpile it, and most importantly, the process of crafting it from scratch during tumultuous times. Clear ingredient lists and straightforward, step-by-step cooking instructions are provided, catering to even those less inclined toward culinary pursuits. The omission of guesswork concerning quantities, temperatures, and other parameters was greatly appreciated, with every stage of the process clearly delineated.

Perusing a selection of recipes, it became apparent that The Lost SuperFoods could evolve into my definitive guide to crisis nutrition.

Surprisingly, numerous superfoods outlined within the book prove cost-effective to concoct. The ingredients are both economical and conveniently procurable at local supermarkets. After sourcing the necessary components, the cost boiled down to around $10 per day for a family of four, using these rediscovered victuals.

Acknowledging the escalating cost of food, driven by inflation or potentially more insidious forces, I aim to optimize value in building a survival stockpile.

When all's said and done, the treasures contained within The Lost SuperFoods outshine the conventional "survival foods" available online, which often amount to carb-heavy buckets at exorbitant prices.

I firmly believe this book merits a spot in any collection, not merely for preppers or survival enthusiasts, but for anyone wary of encountering vacant store shelves on an ordinary grocery run.

As events such as hurricanes, wildfires, or tornadoes have shown, local disasters can swiftly transform store aisles into barren spaces. When a true crisis unfolds, looting can leave shelves bare for weeks or even months.

I'm genuinely enthusiastic about crafting some of the superfoods unveiled in the book. After sharing it with my wife, she's decided to join in as well. This weekend, we're set to embark on crafting Biltong together.

All in all, The Lost SuperFoods is a rare jewel. While I expected to unearth a few previously unknown survival foods, I was greeted with a wealth of options — dozens upon dozens of them! The book teems with survival wisdom sourced from those who weathered harsh eras. Considering this, even though it may be a tad pricey, the value it offers remains exceptional.
